Because you loved me

I am the way I am because you loved me.

I am the way I am because you believed in me.

I am the way I am because you saw in me what I couldn't.

I am the way I am because you knew how strong I could be.

I am the way I am because you always encouraged me.

I am the way I am because you shared your strength, your kindness, your laughter, your intellect, your goodness, your wit, your goofiness and your total being with me.

I was and still feel deeply loved by you. Even though you are not physically present, I am surrounded by your loving embrace and feel safe knowing that you still reside within my heart. You share my heartbeat. You are my first thought on arising and my last thought when I lay down for the night. Your influence is in every action I take, in every decision I make and yes, even in every thought that crosses my mind.

We were glued together in almost everything we did and we loved that. But we were strong individuals who complimented each other like pieces in a puzzle.

What an incredible partnership we had - one of total love, respect and joy.

And all this -- because you loved me..... and I loved you. And I still do.

In praise of the supporting players

My posts starting in April of 2017 all revolved around the battle we fought to keep my beloved Warren alive and to get him well. From the day we got the diagnosis in May of 2016, this was a battle waged by our entire family.

Our sons became extreme activists. Every night, Abbott would comb the Internet looking for any and all information on different treatments. He came up with so much information it was mind-boggling. And every bit of information was copied to us as we all followed up on every piece. Much of the information was beneficial and we made good use of what we learned.

In the meantime, Ethan was doing some of the same and calling constantly, feeding us information with a very liberal amount of encouragement. Between the two guys, we were able to take advantage of every lead, protocol, or treatment available here in the U.S and elsewhere. The decisions we made were based upon all the information we, as a family, gathered from not only the Internet but from picking the brains of everyone we knew who might have leads for us to follow. And there were many.

I am convinced that the incredible love, support and encouragement we got from our sons lengthened the days our Warren was able to spend with us. And those days were quality days because of the alternative protocols he followed.

I would be remiss if I didn't mention how important our doggies were in all this. Somehow they knew Warren was not well and they stayed by his side or on his lap constantly, heaping tons of affection on him. Warren got a lot of pleasure from their attention.

The love and support of our sons was key in this journey of hope and our lives were enriched beyond measure because of them. Warren and I spoke often about how blessed we were to have such incredibly wonderful sons and we joked often that we really did something right! They continue to be a source of love and pride and comfort for me.

Ethan and Abbott, you have my heart!

TO MY DARLING SON, ETHAN: FROM THE VERY FIRST MOMENT....

From the moment I knew you were coming, I held my breath and said a prayer that your nine-month journey would be traveled without incident, surrounded by everything you needed, including the incredible love Dad and I were feeling at this chance to finally bring a new life into our world.  I loved you the minute I heard your heartbeat, I loved you more the minute you were born. Then I saw your face and I fell in love some more. You were only a minute old, but I knew I would die for you and to this day I still would.

From that day forward you have given Dad and me a laugh a minute, our hearts bursting with love through all your growing up years, 'kvelling' at all your accomplishments (and there were many) and loving the compassionate, kind and caring human being you were becoming.

Our life with you during your first 18 years was exceptionally happy.  You made parenting easy as we watched you grow from such a cute little boy with a wonderful giggle and smile to a great teenager who did so well in school, not following the crowd but creating your own path.

You found your life's calling early and pursued it vigorously at Arizona State University. You have become one of the country's premier photographers and have received so many awards for your wonderful work.  Yours is not a job, it is the passion of your life.

Wishing you a wonderful birthday with many, many more years to enjoy your passion and find even more success in all you do.

We are so proud of the boy we knew.  We are so proud of the man you have become.  You are loved beyond measure.
